Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers to Hold 7th Annual Meeting

The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers has set a date for its seventh annual meeting. It will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 beginning at 8:00 am at the Towanda Country Club on Route 6 East of Towanda.

The theme of the 7th Annual Meeting is “Cultivating the Seeds of Inspiration.” Recognition will be given to the newest members of the CFTT Visionary Society. Featured will be the announcement of the newest professional advisor to receive the CFTT’s prestigious award called Partners in Philanthropy.

In addition the CFTT has instituted an award for its Board members who have served out their full terms with distinction. The first tow member to be recognized by the CFTT as Honorary Board Members will be announced.

The guest speaker is Rita O’Hara, a Special Education teacher for the Athens Area School District who was the recipient of a Curriculum Enhancement grant. She used the grant funds to purchase computers and software for her classroom to improve the reading skills of primarily her first and second grade students.

She will speak about her experiences in her classroom with students who have been identified as needing specific interventions in order to be able to succeed in school. The software allows each child to work on his/her own areas of weakness.

In addition, the meeting will give recognition to the new funds established in 2009, CFTT donors and the work of the County Advisory Boards. The 2009 CFTT Annual Report will be presented to the community for the first time.

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) a non-profit public foundation established in 2002 by a diverse group of local leaders and residents encourages community philanthropy to enhance the quality of life for those who reside in Bradford, Potter, Sullivan and Tioga Counties in Pennsylvania and Tioga County in New York State.

Marilyn Bok, CEO, stated: “The potential for good in the future is only limited by the generosity of the people of the region. Our funds are raised locally and are used to meet local needs. It is a very exciting time for us. We are growing very rapidly and although this increases the workload you get a real sense of satisfaction in being able to experience the fruits of your labor. You know in the end all the hard work on everyone’s part will all be worth it. You can already see the benefits of this community foundation.”
